Talents

Talents encompass the things a character knows and can do. There are some Talents that a character begins the game with, such as Backgrounds. Others are earned through gameplay or purchased with XP, such as Techniques or Abilities. Listed below are each type of Talent and a description of them.

Skills and Abilities

A Player's Class determines the skills and abilities they have access to in most cases. Every player has access to Classlss Talents in addition to those offered by their class.

A Skill is a Talent that can be used repeatedly without resting. Instead of purchasing multiple of the same Skill, you can upgrade its rank to increase its usefulness.

An Ability is an expendable Talent that refreshes after resting. You can purchase multiple of the same Ability to have multiple uses available before resting.

Refer to the chart below for costs of purchasing a Skill and the order of Ability purchases. An associated in-game achievement is usually a prerequisite for purchasing a Rank 3 Talent.

Attributes

The Attributes a Player has access to are determined by their Kin. Players may select one to start with and may learn two more by completing Kin Quests during the course of an event.

Techniques

Techniques are a type of Talent that modify how another Talent (typically an Ability) operates. They are earned in-game and have a wide array of effects. Techniques are earned by joining guilds, factions, and orders, as well as by completing quests. On rare occasions, special NPCs can teach a player a Technique.

Modifiers

Modifiers represent some significant change to a player that typically has some upside and downside. Unlike many Talents, Modifiers aren't associated with any specific Class or Kin. During the course of the game, a player may gain or lose certain Modifiers.

Backgrounds

Backgrounds aren't associated with a specific Class or Kin. Utilize them to support your character's backstory or bolster your skills. Most Backgrounds are either informative or role-played. Each character starts with two Backgrounds.

The more specific a background is, the more detailed the information your character will have access to within it. (i.e. if you choose geography, you'll know about general places. If you choose a city, you'll know about store locations, districts, and local politics, etc.)
